The good thing about the company that is responsible for that classic loud and nasty V-twin bike, is that they stay true to their classic design. So many years have passed by, yet they still have that same shape and form. And yes. That loud roar of the engine.

So since we’re actually nearing the end of 2017 in a few months, let us take a look at how the future metal hogs will look like. The 2018 Softails.

Since these new bikes have since been revealed, the other new and really big news is that the “Milwaukee-Eight” motor is making its way from the Touring scene all the way to the production version Softail lines. And this of course comes with a new chassis.

Here are a few essential facts you will need to check out and learn about the 2018 Harley-Davidson Softail:

First of the many facts is that by 2018, there will be 8 different versions of these Softail bikes. Namely – Fat Boy, Fat Bob, Street Bob, Low Rider, Heritage Classic, Deluxe, Slim and Breakout. With such names, you know that Harley-Davidson is far from done.

Next is the fact that if you buy one, you will have a choice of two versions of the Milwaukee-Eight engine. There’s the Milwaukee-Eight 107, a 1750 cc engine with precision oil-cooled cylinder heads which will be the standard for all the 2018 models. If you want a bit more punch with that, you can opt for the more powerful engine variant, the Milwaukee-Eight 114. A 1870 cc engine with water-cooled cylinder heads.

Performance is expected to be improved greatly. According to Harley-Davidson, acceleration from 0-60 and rolling speed acceleration from 60 to 80 is highly increased going from the high output twin cam 103 to the new Milwaukee-Eight 107’s. Also, expect a more brutal punch in power with the 114 version.

With the new power plant coming in, the new bikes will have a more updated and optimized chassis. The new frames will be lighter and will have increased rigidity to handle all that power from the new engines they will be housing. Harley-Davidson claims an increase of 34% in chassis stiffness compared to the frames that were produced by the company from 2016. With the wide version of the Softail swingarm shedding thirteen pounds off and the narrow edition losing 18 pounds off. These new frames will also have more simplified designs and fewer welds on their parts.

With the other part that will be upgraded by 2018, the suspension will also be upgraded. Each 2018 softails will get a Showa dual-bending valve fork. These are also a few technological advances that have been passed down from the Touring Line. Fork travel for these new and upgraded suspension will be five inches. While the shock will have a spring-preload adjustment for a 240-pound range of riders and payload. One extra details is that Fat Bob, Fat Boy and Breakout will have tool-free adjustment of the shock springs.
